SUMMARY:Mount Meru\, Tanzania (4-Day Trek & 2-Night Hotel Stay)
DESCRIPTION:Climb: Mt Meru\, Tanzania. \nDates: 27th May\, 2026 – 1st June\, 2026 \nPick-up Point: Nairobi or Arusha. \nCharges:\nKenyan Citizens: Ksh. 88\,000\nNon-East African Citizens: $1\,280 \nAbout the hike: \nMount Meru\, towering at 4\,566m (14\,980 ft)\, is Tanzania’s second-highest peak and a stunning trek for those looking for a challenge. With breathtaking views\, a great acclimatization opportunity\, and far fewer crowds than Kilimanjaro\, it’s an underrated gem. Wildlife sightings are common along the trail\, which is why all groups hike with an armed park ranger. \nThis trek is best suited for hikers with some prior experience. No technical climbing skills are needed\, but a good level of fitness helps. Whether you’re preparing for Kilimanjaro or just after an unforgettable high-altitude adventure\, Mt Meru delivers with its breathtaking landscapes and rewarding climb. \nClimbing Schedule: \nTravel Day 1: Nairobi to Arusha (Overnight at Hotel) \nWe depart Nairobi at 5:30 a.m.\, and head to Arusha\, Tanzania. Upon arrival\, we’ll meet our mountain guides for a briefing on the trek ahead. The evening will be spent enjoying dinner and resting at the hotel in preparation for the adventure. \nTrekking Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut. \nIn the morning\, after breakfast at the hotel\, we’ll board our transfer vehicle for the drive to Arusha National Park’s Momella Gate\, which takes about 1.5 hours. Upon arrival\, our lead guide will handle registration and park admission while we meet the armed ranger who will accompany us throughout the trek. \nWe’ll then begin our hike through the lush forest\, rich with wildlife and birdlife. Keep an eye out for giraffes\, buffaloes\, zebras\, warthogs\, antelopes\, and monkeys and if we’re lucky\, we might even spot an elephant. \nA packed lunch will be enjoyed along the trail\, and upon arrival at Miriakamba Huts\, we’ll be served a hot meal and beverages. Afterward\, you can relax or explore the surroundings before settling in for the night. \nDistance: 11km | Elevation Gain: 1\,000m | Time: 6–7 hours | Terrain: Forest \nTrekking Day 2: Miriakamba Huts to Saddle Hut (+Optional Little Meru Acclimatization Hike) \nAfter breakfast\, we continue our ascent toward Saddle Hut\, following a steep trail through the forest. Keep an eye out for more wildlife along the way. As we gain elevation\, the rainforest gradually gives way to heath and moorland\, with towering trees and expansive views of the Mount Meru crater and ash cone. \nWe expect to arrive at Saddle Hut in time for a hot lunch\, after which you can rest or explore the area. For those with extra energy\, an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3\,820m) offers stunning panoramic views across the surrounding plains. \nAs night falls\, we’ll enjoy an early dinner and settle in for the night\, preparing for the early morning summit push. \nDistance: 6km | Elevation Gain: 1\,000m | Time 4–6 hours | Terrain: Forest \n \nTrekking Day 3: Saddle Hut — Summit (4\,566m) — Miriakamba Hut \nWe’ll be up by 12:30 a.m. to get ready for our final push to the top\, setting off about an hour later. A light snack and some warm tea will be enough to keep us fueled without feeling too heavy for the climb ahead. \nOur first stretch takes us up a steep trail toward Rhino Point (3\,800m)\, then onwards to Cobra Point (4\,350m). From there\, we’ll follow a narrow\, rugged path along the crater edge between sharp ridges and rocky walls until we reach the highest point of Mount Meru right around sunrise. \nThe views from the summit are very scenic. On a clear day\, we’ll see Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance and the full sweep of Meru’s massive crater below us. After taking it all in\, we’ll begin our descent back to Saddle Hut for a well-earned breakfast\, before continuing down through the forest to Miriakamba Hut\, where we’ll spend our last night on the mountain. \nDistance: 5km ascent\, 13km descent | Elevation Gain: 1\,066m | Time: 10–12 hours | Terrain: Alpine Desert \nTrekking Day 4: Miriakamba Hut –  Momella Gate – Arusha \nOur final stretch begins after breakfast as we take a beautiful\, direct route through the forest. We’ll pass by Tululusia Falls which is a perfect spot to pause\, breathe\, and let the moment sink in. The trail might be shorter\, but the magic isn’t over yet; the mountain often gifts us with surprise animal sightings even on our way down. Once we reach Momella Gate\, we’ll take a moment to thank our incredible crew before heading back to Arusha for a warm shower\, a comfy bed\, and one last evening together in town. \nDistance: 10km | Time: 4–5 hours \nTravel Day 2: Depart Arusha back to Nairobi.\n \nHIKING GEAR CHECKLIST \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCategory\nItems\n\n\n\n\nHead + Neck\nBeanie\, Sun Hats/Caps\, Balaclava/Bandana/Buffs/Neck Gaiter\n\n\nChest + Arms\nMoisture-wicking thermal top for base layer\, Fleece Jacket/Down Jacket\, Summit Jacket (windproof+waterproof)\, Gloves (warm+waterproof)\n\n\nLower Body\nHiking pants\, Thermal Tights\, Shell/Waterproof rain pants\n\n\nFootwear\nHiking boots/shoes\, Hiking socks\n\n\nEssential Accessories\nTrekking Poles\, Gaiters\, Hydration Bladder (2-3L)\, Water filter or purification tablets (optional)\, Head-Torch\, Poncho/Rain Gear\, Sunglasses (Polarized)\n\n\nPersonal Items\nPortable Power Bank\, Camera\, Personal Meds\, Toiletries\, Pocket money for tips\, Preferred trail snacks\n\n\nCamping Gear\nSleeping Bag\, Camping Sandals/Crocs\, Hot Water Bottle.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you need help sourcing gear for your Mt.
